Oh, by the way, Happy New Year! - God I'm lazy...
Super Mario 3 for NES - I loathe you, yet I can't stop! Please send help.

Speaking of Super Mario 3 - if you haven't seen this video of some Japanese kid beating the game in 11 minutes (obviously, he does not die) then you have missed something very special. It is absolutely amazing! WATCH IT NOW! (Windows Media Player required)

Bride Britney Back to Bachelorette
In case you missed it - which you easily could have - Britney Spears got married this weekend. Today, the marriage is annulled.
Is this anything more than a publicity stunt? Probably not. Britney, if you're listening to ANYONE, use your talent to get into the papers. Not a sham of a marriage. And people think that gay marriages will ruin the sanctity of marriage. Ha - this story should be proof otherwise.
The pop princess's music label, Jive Records, released a statement saying, "On January 3rd, Britney Spears and a friend took a joke too far by getting married. Ms. Spears and Mr. Alexander have filed for an annulment which will become official on Monday, January 5."That's some joke...
The wedding plan was apparently hatched Friday night while Spears and Alexander were partying at Ghostbar, the hip club in the Palms Casino Hotel.I'd heard on the radio that this all happened around between 3 and 4 am. What in the hell were they doing to think that it would be a funny joke to get married? Maybe a little more than some booze - me thinks.

Fucking Awesome Web Site
You know I eNjoy looking at the site statistics to see just how people get to the tastypopsicle and I believe I have come across the best one so far. Apparently somone was searching the web through Google for "fucking awesome web site" and although "web site" is one word and should therefore be spelled "website", yours truly is the number 1 result. What is rather interesting about this whole thing is that I made this phrase in reference to a different website on 08 August 2003. What I said, though, was "...web site is fucking awesome!"
So who's the winner? I think we know who that is, tough nutz.

Disney: Bend over and take it like a man!
Nearly 260 artists may lose their jobs as Disney shifts all animation production to Burbank studio.
Kind of a shame though.
We went to Costco tonight for the first time. Great deals I tell ya - especially on the booze, baby. Oh yea!
Entertainment and media conglomerate Walt Disney Co. will soon close an animation studio in Orlando, Florida, possibly leaving some 258 animators out of work.As our interest and desire for computer generated animated films increases, the art of hand-drawn animation will go the way of the Pony Express. I don't know if that is really a bad thing at this point. People will always draw animations which means it will be seen as more of an art form in the future. But if you're looking to take people's (errr, I mean make) money then you have to use more cost effective ways to do it.
The company, however, reiterated its commitment to traditional animation and said it has some hand-drawn projects in development.
Kind of a shame though.

End of the affair
Apparently, the use of Ecstasy in Britain is on the decline.
It's a great article so give it a read if you're interested.
One pill now costs about the same as a pint of beer - and is almost as easy to get hold of. But the youth of Britain is starting to turn its back on ecstasy. Leo Benedictus on how the drug of the 90s fell from favour.Pills over there cost about £2.50 - which even with the poor exchange rate makes the cost of each pill less than $5.
After 15 dizzy years in the mainstream, ecstasy is unquestionably non-addictive, and appears to be "relatively safe in the short term", according to Professor David Nutt in his advice to the home affairs select committee. In fact, though the authorities prefer not to make the comparison, roughly 20 deaths a year ranks ecstasy alongside electric blankets in a list of Britain's biggest killers.

Master Brick Builder
When I grow up I want to be Nathan Sawaya. Aside from being a 30 year-old lawyer, Nathan, in his free time, builds AMAZING creations with LEGO bricks. On January 23, 2003 he will find out if has been chosen to become the 7th Master Model Builder at LEGO Land, San Diego. His Han Solo in Carbonite grabbed my attention but the rest of his creations are just as creative. I couldn't imagine building such things from an apartment in Manhattan.
I decided to make Han Solo frozen in carbonite. Life size. It took about 10,000 bricks, almost all dark gray, and about three months of on and off building. I built the sculpture so it can break down easily into smaller parts, thus making it mobile. Because, like most people, I like to take large sculptures of people frozen in carbonite with me whenever I travel. Thanks to boingboing for bringing this to my attention.

Right now I'm feelin' - feelin' good
all around fun weekend
Now that Amy is between semesters and I have a lull with the many projects I have my hands in, we decided to take a (much needed) break from our normal weekend activities (working). Friday night we spent the evening with J and Jen at Vision night club. We got our drink on and I got my dance on. It was a lot of fun to go out dancing again. It's good to know that this aging body can still move on the dance floor. If there is one thing that I hope I can for a long time it is definitely dance.
Saturday we headed to the south-side of town to be with Kristen and Cooper. We watched movies, Comedy Central, and of course indulged in some more libations. We made it back to our place late Sunday evening where Amy and I relaxed and enjoyed the final moments of the weekend. It's never fun to say good bye to the weekend.
Between the whole weekend, though, we have found our new favorite drink - Yaegermeister and Red Bull. "Yaeger bombs" if you're doing shots of it at a bar. Otherwise, it's just another drink that gets you drunk but keeps you up. A good switch from the days of Red Bull and vodka.
Apologies for those try to access tastypopsicle.com today. My site (as well as every Readyhosting site) was down for the whole day. Probably a DNS problem. Curse them! Because of this work was just boring.

ASP custom 404 error page
Ian Lloyd over at A List Apart wrote up an article on 16 January 2004 about creating a custom 404 error page ("Page cannot be found") using Javascript. On 21 January, Andrew Waer wrote a PHP example. So I wrote an ASP example based on the other two (mostly on the PHP one, though).
I won't bore you with the details as to WHY this is important. Read Ian's article for more information. What's nice is that I will be using this for my various needs as well. It's a win-win (who-cares) situation.
In case you'd like to see and use the code - I present to you my ASP custom 404 error page
