Money Money Money... Money!
For all those people that think Michael Schiavo is a big fat meany jerk poopy head get a wiff of what Terri Schiavo's parents are up to. If you donated money to help save Terri's life then you can expect a lot of unsolicited mail, spam, and phone calls.
From the New York Times:
The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups. Privacy experts said the sale of the list was legal and even predictable, if ghoulish. "I think it's amusing," said Robert Gellman, a privacy and information policy consultant. "I think it's absolutely classic America. Everything is for sale in America, every type of personal information." Pamela Hennessy, an unpaid spokeswoman for the Schindlers, said she was initially appalled when she learned of the list's existence. "It is possibly the most distasteful thing I have ever seen," Ms. Hennessy said. "Everybody is making a buck off of her."Link to full story Even her slimy parents. Total dicks.
10 years ago today...
It seems odd to have to be reminded that it was 10 years ago today when Oklahoma City, OK was turned upside-down and the United States witnessed "terrorism" like never before. At first no one could believe what had happened - the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was completely destroyed and so many lives were lost to the hands of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. Small children in the first floor daycare, happily playing at 9:01 a.m. fell silent one minute later - where laughter quickly turned to cries for help.
But the world has changed a lot in 10 years. I was just getting ready to graduate from high school and the world hadn't yet met September 11th. George Bush the Senior was President and global terrorism was silently waiting while we here in the United States dealt with domestic instability. The Southern Poverty Law Center estimates that there was something like 858 militia groups back in 1996 where in comparison to 2004 there were only maybe 152. The enemy's in the desert on the other side of the world (contrary to what some believe, the "enemy" was not captured in a hole in the ground last year) quietly waiting.
You see, time is an amazing thing to Americans - it passes and we soon forget. Our complacency underwhelmes us ad nauseum and we become too comfortable again. It's true that many of us today will wake and say "Oh, yea. Wow! The Oklahoma City bombing was 10 years ago?! I hadn't realized. That's weird." But it shouldn't be weird. What's odd is how we've become so wrapped up in today's "War on Terror" that we've lost track of the fact that we're still under attack from ourseleves.
I guess it's just that I don't believe that our enemy is the Unabomber or McVeigh. Their radical ideas questioned right-wing ways in the 90's and, yes, they did some terribly coward things but we've lost track of that.
Today, tomorrow, the next day/week/month/year remember how we got to where we are today. I know it's not easy because there's a lot going on in our lives. But just because the scale of the attack seems small and the enemy is locked away doesn't mean we should forget.
Mint Royale - Wait for You
So I'm only like 2 weeks sleeping on this. But whatever. Mint Royale is my favorite flavor of the month - and they've been around for a long while. But that's typical of UK music in the U.S. Forget the speed of the internet, the music might as well have been introduced via the Titanic as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
Mint Royale (MR) is set to release their third album (yes, they have two) in June entitled "See You in the Morning". It's reported that "See You in the Morning" will contain the "Singing in the Rain" track heard in the VW GTI commercial that you've already heard about (but this'll be the legit version - not the crap track that's being spread like a virus).
Anyway, "Wait for You" has been released on 12" and download. Unfortunately, only 1000 records were pressed of "Wait for You" and if you slept on it then I believe you're too late unless they're going to press more. Who knows. The single includes:
Wait for You
Wait for You - Bastian Remix
Waiting in the Rain
Wait For You - National Forest production Line remix
You can hear a bit of all four at Karma Download or buy the download bundle for less than $4.
While you wait for June to roll around check out the video for "Wait for You". While not fabulous it's still fun.
The music that I'm groovin' to is - Mint Royale
