I've decided to open up the weblog archive. At one point is was closed off except to registered members due to an incident, However, that company has since closed its doors so they can just eat it. Use the search to find something that youmight be looking for. Maybe you'll find it.

Time flies... when there's a lot going on
We close on our condo in just over a month and the wedding is exactly 5 months away. Unbelievable. If we're not meeting with florists (tonight at 9 for instance) we're spending way too long try to fax 30 pages of documents to our lender (why must fax machines crap out around page 12? What's this "Memory Full" bullshit? What, does it only have 16Mb of RAM?) Unbelievable.
But mom was in Chi-town this past weekend so that helped to take the edge off. And although I took her to Crobar when she first visited back in 2000 (she got good at finding all the rolly-pollies) we opted for civil activities this time around. It was a lot of fun and it was great to see her since I don't get to make it home as much as I would like.
Blah blah blah... on to the fun stuff.
I'm absolutely in love with Kevin Cornell's drawing style over at Bearskinrug. His style and entertaining sense of humor make every one of his drawings simply splendid. I can't say enough about him, his work, and his 100 One-Offs. If I could draw this is how I dream I would do it and I would have a sketchbook filled with delicious little drawings.
I bumped into The Electronic Encyclopedia of Chicago this past week. It's released by the Chicago Historical Society and is a FREE digital version of the $65 book that they published (appropriately called "The Encyclopedia of Chicago")
And Alex Blagg is a pretentious dick. He tries to be funny but he's comes off a bit insecure. On April 12, 2005 he posted to his Blogger blog (of course) an article entitled "Look, Nobody Cares That You're a DJ". Read it if you're interested (go to his site so that you can at least read #6. DJ Groupie Chick - yes, she's doing to the DJ exactly what you're thinking she's doing). The fun comes in the comments, though. At first, all of his buddies are like "Oh that's sooo right on! You should have added Wedding DJ and High School Dance Dj" et cetera, ad nauseum, et cetera... but since the site has been linked about, the comments have become increasingly more attacking toward him and perhaps his own insecurities. Of course I had to leave my own.

toothpaste for dinner
Simple drawings with often bizarre dialog = toothpaste for dinner. Created by Drew before March 2002 (yea, well over 3 years ago) but only recently discovered by myself. For many this will be old news but for others it'll be a daily dose of humor in an otherwise mundane dredge through the work day.
Although there is no RSS from Drew's site, you can get a homebrewed one from here, which I recommend. If you're not already subscribing to feeds than you're expending way too much energy.
In some not-so-old-news-for-a-change and on the heals of my previous post about The Electronic Encyclopedia of Chicago may I introduce you to the Chicago Crime Database. It's a *beautiful* mashup of crime data obtained from the Chicago Police Department's Citizen ICAM Web site, which is a publicly available database of reported crime and Google Maps. Blows my mind... just type in your address and you'll know where all the reported crimes around you have occurred as well as the type of crimes. Information presented in an easy to use and easy to understand way - there's nothing better. All of the information is public record - these guys just made it 100 times more accessible. Bravo!

Waiting in the Rain - by Mint Royale
FINALLY - I got to hear this great track from Mint Royale today. What's it been, like a month already since it was officially released? Ah well, I had already heard the A-Side track, "Wait for You" when it first came out however, the B-Side (and arguably the better side) was an elusive little bugger to get my ears on.
As I've mentioned before, "Waiting in the Rain" is Mint Royale's current release in response to their popular VW GTI ad campaign featuring the pop-and-lock of David Elsewhere ala Gene Kelly.
So what do I think? I really enjoy it but I miss the "Singing in the Rain" lyrics mixed in. The song has the same sequences but I don't feel it's as solid as the commercial was. Here's to hoping they actually release a "Singing in the Rain" full version.
