Happy July 1st 2003 everyone! This makes 6 months down and 6 to go. Can you believe that half the year is already over? Can you believe that those 12 people died over the weekend from the porch collapse? What a terrible thing. Especially now hearing that the guy didn't have a permit to build the porch area. *sigh*
This management company is going to lose EVERYTHING now in lawsuits. And too many young people had to die to make some changes in obtaining permits and regulating construction like this.

What a beautiful day it is today to have the day off from work. And how lovely it was to have found out that the crap-tacular "parade" route was right in front of our bedroom window. How wonderful it was to hear the sirens from all of the local fire engines and ambulances blaring so loudly. How absolutely wonderfully unnecessary it was. At least the management company could have warned us or something, you know. Leave a message under the door that could say something like, "Oh, by the way there will be a sorry little parade coming through our community. Too bad so sad for you." It wasn't a real parade and I think that's why it upsets me to no end.
Anyway, happy birthday, America. You deserve it tough guy!
Tomorrow is the PURE show. Should be a lot of fun - I hope.

What a weekend! With the good and the bad. I've lost and misplaced some important things so that's really sad.

The show on the 5th was - eh- ok. Overall I think we were kinda disappointed with BT's performance and Crystal Meth and Digweed just seemed ok. Maybe it was the Congress or something - I don't know. I think I was expecting it to be a little more trancy than it really was. It seemed too experimental actually. Anyway, in the end it was a good weekend with Jen and Jeremy. Yesterday certainly afforded some much needed rest.
So here's to the new group "2mchcndi" and the hit "Club Foot Billy".
stay tuned and eNjoy!
oh, and I think the weather should be ok now since I am using Yahoo! instead of Weather.com. Yahoo!'s is actually much easier to scrape based on their layout.

Web Porn Pushers in Patent Fight
The title says it all: Web Porn Pushers in Patent Fight

They have decided to enforce their legal claim by going after - of all businesses - Internet porn sites. Acacia's intellectual property claims are based on a series of five patents, filed mostly in the early 1990s, for
"a system of distributing video and/or audio information (that) employs digital signal processing to achieve high rates of data compression."
If you ask me that seems kinda vague. But I haven't read all of the patents either. What I loved best about this article, though, was this quote by Spike Goldberg, CEO of an amateur porn site called HomeGrown Video, which is leading the adult community's legal fight against Acacia. He said:"I feel like somebody went out and patented air, and is now going after everyone for breathing."
That does seem kinda funny when you think about it. But it isn't just the porn sites that they are going to go after. Other companies that participate in streaming video and music could be hurt by this. I'm interested in seeing how it all plays out.In other news: have you heard that Nike is buying Converse for about $305M?
Right now I'm feelin' - decent

Chris and Carrie have been here since Monday morning and all seems well so far. We went to the Sears Tower to look out across Chicago - it was fine. They went to the MLB All-star festivities the last two days including the All-star game which was last night. I feel so bad for them because they have been so exhausted - that's why today was a bit more relaxing for them. I think I'm going to take the day off tomorrow to spend some time with them and then we're going out to Transit for Jeremy's birthday. We were going to go out to Big Wig tonight - but now I don't think we really want to. You know how it goes...
Well, the biggest reason why is that our driver's side window doesn't go up!! It is permanently stuck down. So I had to bring the car to a local VW dealership to get it serviced. Now we blessed with a Ford Escort rental.

Good night everyone! Time to get some zzzzz's since I gotta be up early to drop the car off at the shop again. This time to fix stuff that they messed up from last time the car was in. The driver's side lock and driver's side window controls. CURSE THEM! They said it should only take 1.5 hours so I hope to be at work by 10am.
bahhhh.
The news seemed kinda boring today or maybe it was just me. Work was busy off the shizzy fo' rizzy, yo! And what's up with this friendster crap? Too many people are either:
Friends are great. Seriously. In fact all the friends I have I believe I've earned. I busted my ass going out all night and hanging out with these people countless times. In other words, I worked for it. If you think for one moment you can make more friends by mooching off other friends then I really have to worry.
Hear this: the only way to make true friends is to get TRASHED with them. Trust me, that's when the "real" person comes out. Have fun!

- looking to "hook-up" online
- say "I know more people then you so, therefore, I must be superior"
- or... I don't know what else

Thanks again to The Morning News for supplying a few more web sites that I plan on frequenting often. The first one actually appeared yesterday on their site. It's put together by a couple of women named Rhonda and Jane (that's really all they mention on their site) and it's quite possibly one of the only sites I'll be visiting on a regular basis. And why is that? Because the site is called Countdown to Election Day: 525 Reasons to Dump Bush. Every day until election day they are posting another reason why Bush needs to go. Trust me, I thought all we needed was one reason but these folks are making sure the point is made loud and clear.
The music that I'm groovin' to is - the cd's that play overhead in the office

Oh... what a life of the male Zeus bug
Life is full of trials and tribulations, but not for male Zeus bugs. These tiny Australian water bugs enjoy free food, transport and unlimited sex. The male hitches a ride on top of the female, who also feeds him, for up to a week. Most importantly, he's assured his sperm, and not his rival's, is used to create the next generation.
"All the advantages in this relationship seem to fall to the male with no obvious advantage for the female."

Lets go to Britain! Actually, I've been there before. I was there for a week after I graduated from college in 1999 with someone that didn't make the trip fun at all. Any hoot, there is an exhibit called The Art of Chess. The site says it's "one of the most compelling exhibitions in Britain this summer".
And I LOVE this story in Wired... prepare yourself. You may recall a video floating around the net awhile ago called "Star Wars Kid" in which an overweight, somewhat not-all-there kid from Quebec, Canada tapes himself pretending to be a Jedi Knight. The problem is, is that he taped himself doing it in his high school's TV production room and a couple of other kids got a hold of it and posted it on the internet. And now those 4 kids and their families are being sued for $160,000 in damages!! Apparently this idiot has had to drop out of school because he was teased so badly over it. Listen.... everyone gets teased in school. You don't see everyone suing everyone else over it. This family is just drawing even more attention to this hilarious situation. I do hope you eNjoy it as much as I have.
The Art of Chess will feature nineteen chess sets designed by artists in the last hundred years that demonstrate the interaction between chess and modern art. This exhibition will illustrate how this most challenging of games has inspired artists from 1900 to the present day, as it had in earlier centuries.
The origin of chess is unclear. It is believed to have originated around the 7th century in India or Persia and derived from an earlier Indian game. After reaching Arab countries it had spread all over western Europe by the 10th century. No other game in history has been so widely reflected in art and literature around the world. The Art of Chess will show that in the 20th and 21st centuries chess has lost none of its inspirational power.
I'd love to be able to go there and actually see these sets. Collecting chess sets has seemed like a fun idea with me and Amy for awhile. The origin of chess is unclear.
