Well, a few weeks ago I quietly relaunched the KennelSource website along with the information pertaining to our kennel software, Pawtracker. The new site was coded and designed by me (design inspiration from SimpleBits and Stopdesign - two invaluable resources to which I suggest visiting on a regular basis and/or subscribing to their RSS feeds). I took some ideas (from what I can imagine) from the PHP/MySQL Blogging/CMS product MoveableType created by Six Apart. I've never used MT because I don't develop in PHP. I do ASP and MS Access (for the database) in case you haven't noticed. But, no simple ASP blogging solution exists. Certainly not anything like MT. So something needed to be built from scratch. I used the experience I had gained from building tastypopsicle.com and I improved upon it tremendously. The redesign of KennelSource was a great opportunity to come up with a new, easy and manageable way of writing and editing posts using ASP and a basic Access database for content management. Some of the key features are:

• The ability to post a story into one or many categories
• Categories can be added, edited and can toggle between being active and inactive at any time
• The CMS supports multiple users/posters along with appropriate "security" settings
• Security features include designating which categories a writer can post to and determining whether or not their posts must first go through an editorial "post pending" approval process

There are other features as well like Access Level 10 users (the highest level) can edit posts made by anyone while a user with any lower access level can only edit their posts. Additionally, Level 10 users can delete comments left by people and (eventually) will be able to even edit those posts. There is even a way to administer bios of the people within the organization and I also created an address database for one of our affiliate programs. And like other blogging sites ours supports maintaining "Quick Links" and "Related Links" to other sites and stories that we find interesting and useful. So that's what it is but here's why I'm talking about it: I plan to keep developing upon it and eventually releasing it as a publicly available for download and use for people looking for an ASP blogging and content management solution. While what I have now is useful and is for all practical reasons worthy of a "Beta" release (we are using it on our site afteral) I am not 100% ready to release it fully. I'm interested in seeing if this post drums up some interest or comments from Googlers looking for an ASP solution. Let me know and I'll keep you posted.

Let me first start out by saying that this is bigger (MUCH bigger) than the Transformer Breakdance video. I guarantee it and I'll put my money where my mouth is if I have to. If you haven't seen this video yet DROP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING (again). Spite Your Face Productions Ltd. is what appears to be a small animation/graphic studio in London. However, don't let their size or crappy web site fool you for these individuals are highly creative and know a sure thing when it knocks on the door. Based on what I read from the press release surrounding this video it appears as if Spite Your Face was commissioned by LEGO to craete a promotional piece that will be used to help sell the Spider-Man 2 "The Peril of Doc Ock" LEGO toys and figures (I want them).

The 4-minute film, written, directed and animated by Tim Drage and Tony Mines, brings the new Spider-Man 2 LEGO range to life using a combination of traditional stop-motion techniques and computer animation effects. From the 6th of July, following its exclusive four day run on Yahoo, 'Spider-Man: The Peril of Doc Ock' will be available to view on www.spiteyourface.com and www.lego.com. The film will be be making numerous other appearances in the coming months, on tv and in stores world wide - with a special surprise due for later this year.

This movie/short film/advertisement/work of art is void of any dialogue yet tells a wonderful story through the use of tight camer shots, various angles, and a superb music score created by Jason Graves. I haven't seen the Spider-Man sequel yet and I imagine that I won't see it until it comes out on video (someone on the Spite Your Face guestbook even believes that this video is better than the movie itself - ouch!). If you don't like LEGO toys or Spider-Man at least watch this and appreciate it for all its hard work and all of the amazing amount of story boarding and planning that must have gone into this thing. Hell, I've even made it easy for you to get your own copy to eNjoy forever! Watch the movie (have I said that enough?) Oh and when you're done, do what I did - stare at your computer monitor and ask yourself what in the hell your purpose in life is. Why do you get up and go to work every day? These guys are living the dream.

I can't stop listening!! My new favorite group and song (for the time being). Cooper introduced us to The Postal Service about a month ago I'd say and I really eNjoyed the music whilst we were playing dominoes (for which I am very good at). Anyway, I've started giving the album "Give Up" another listen through and track numero uno, "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" is so moving. I physically am unable to sit still when I listen to it. It's electronica-meets-indie-rock (or Jimmy Tamborello meets Ben Gibbard; Dntel meets Death Cab For Cutie ala "Life Is Full of Possibilities") Jen Wood's accompaniment on The District Sleeps Alone Tonight melts your heart. :)

The chain introduced a new line of frozen drinks Wednesday, including frozen original kreme -- a drinkable version of the company's signature doughnut -- raspberry, latte and double chocolate.

Has anything that can possibly happen already happened? Has every idea been thought of? Ethics, design, and art have always walked a funny walk with these questions. If you design something, paint a portait, take a photograph or just in general CREATE something and I come along and use your idea in some way am I stealing it? Or am I creating something completely new? Yes, ethically speaking taking someone's idea and using it as your own is not right. But what if I change your idea and make it better/different? It all gets a little muddled I think. Dave Shea over at mezzoblue.com proposed such a question today and so I felt the need to pine in with my own comments. Apparently some if what I say makes sense. Who knew...
