On Saturday evening we went out in celebration of Kristen's and Cooper's birthdays. They suggested that we check out a band that was going to be playing at Subterranean. I hadn't been to Subterranean, which is in Wicker Park on the corner of Milwaukee/Damen/North, in quite a few years. And at $12 a ticket it wasn't going to hurt the wallet if the show was a bit of a dud.

Lucky for us we enjoyed the performance immensely and discovered our new favorite band - Bitter:Sweet. The debut album for for the eclectic duo of Kiran Shahani and Shana Halligan, The Mating Game, was released on April 4, 2006. Since then they have enjoyed a growing fan base across the country as their music has appeard in the soundtracks of The Devil Wears Prada and Grey's Anatomy.

The sound is a unique blend of electronic, tip-hop and jazz with a bit of a James Bond flare that would be the perfect background music of a martini lounge. Just two weeks ago they released a second album titled The Remix Game which is songs from The Mating Game reworked by notable producers such as Thievery Corporation, AtJazz, Skeewiff, Nicola Conte, and Fort Knox Five. This "new" album makes a great addition to the original and we're looking foreward to Bitter:Sweet's sophomore album which Shana said will be coming out real soon.
