Sometimes I just want to go off on something. I have ideas and stories that can get wordy if I let them. My quasi-daily postings just aren't an appropriate place for them and I hate that I hadn't set-up anything to support these rants (or raves). I don't know - it's something and we'll see how it goes. If you don't like 'em don't read 'em.

Everyone knows what food stamps are, right? I have no beef with government support to those that truly need it. With that said, I still believe that if you're can't afford to have babies then DON'T HAVE BABIES! It's rather easy to prevent babies from "happening". But that's not what this rant is about. No, that is for another time - this is much deeper than that.

You see, just yesterday Amy and I were in our neighborhood Jewel (the midwest grocery-chain empire like a Wegman's or Piggly-Wiggly depending on what part of the country you are from) and they were having a sale of Coca-Cola products - 12-pack cans for $2.25 each (4 for $9 to be precise - each can of soda is roughly $.20 each). The limit is 4 but apparently it's not 4 total but 4 of each type of Coke product. You follow? I digress, though. A man, an unkempt black man in case that matters to anyone out there, arrived to the shelving units where the Coca-Cola products are displayed to be purchased with a DOLLY! Yes, one of those things to assist in carrying boxes or other heavy, bulky items. Mind you, he was not an employee of Jewel. He proceeded to pillage what remained on the shelves grabbing as many 12-packs that would fit onto the dolly. I found this odd but no more odd than having witnessed people buying shopping carts of cereal when Jewel has a great deal on them as well. The pieces all fell together when we found ourselves checking-out behind this man. As he lay each 12-pack onto the conveyor belt I noticed in his hand a LINK card. For those unfamiliar with LINK cards they are the "less embarrassing" way of distributing food-stamp funds. It acts just like a debit card for a checking account. He checked out and paid with his food-stamps. The cashier said, "Have a good evening" to which he replied, "I'll be back later for more."

I stood for a moment in complete disgust. No single man or woman would need or want over 200 cans of soda and I find it highly unlikely that he was purchasing these to store away and/or stock up for the Super Bowl. No, I believe VERY strongly that these were purchased using food stamps to be RESOLD to a small corner store or in exchange for liquor/cigarettes/crack/paint etc... etc. WHATEVER! It doesn't matter. This was a complete misuse of government aide I have ever seen. That money should be used on food and FOOD only. Food to feed your children and yourself should you need it. Otherwise, get your ass up and get a damn job. God, I LOATHE people who take advantage of a system. These people, in my experience, tend to bitch and complain when funding is cut. Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch!!

Which leads me to my last part which is Amy and I had to get some rain-checks for the sale because there weren't any 12-packs left worth getting. Thanks, assholes!
